Overview of the EBRPPRC Court Changer Program

Are you ready to be a good neighbor indeed? Can you spare one or more weekday afternoons between 12:45 pm and 3pm to insure courts are operating appropriately and families are being treated respectfully? If the answer is yes you may be interested in serving as an East Baton Rouge Parish Prison Reform Coalition Court Changer. The Coalition is committed to meeting our justice-impacted friends family and neighbors who are going through the criminal system at the very beginning. Our court changer program includes monitoring First Appearance hearings in the 19th JDC. In 2023 we monitored 222 First Appearance sessions. The Coalition engages every family member that enters the courtroom for a First Appearance hearing and guides them through the minefield that is the judicial system.  Court Changer Orientation and Training is held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at the Eden Park Branch Library, 5131 Greenwell Springs Road, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70806 from 5:00 pm - 5:45 pm.
