Easter Vigil is the final part of the Triduum, a three-day celebration and the most sacred part of the liturgical year. It is particularly beautiful and touches on all the senses through incense, light, music, bells, and more. Easter Vigil begins in silence and in darkness. We light a blazing fire outside the church and the new paschal candle is lit from this fire. We listen to nine readings that cover the story of our salvation and lead us to the Gospel, at which time the lights come on and we ring bells to celebrate Jesus' resurrection and triumph over sin and death! To add to the joy, there are often adult catechumens who join the Catholic church through Baptism, Confirmation, and/or First Eucharist. This year, Annunciation is overjoyed to welcome several catechumens into our church family.
Following the Vigil, we celebrate with food and drink in the hall. Christ is risen! As the Easter Exsúltet says, "let this holy building shake with joy!" We celebrate together Jesus' love for us and his victory.
