EarthCraft: A science art workshop series and celebration of sustainable future

In partnership with Jane Addams Hull house and Urban Rivers, the Artistic Alphabet Mafia is hosting

EarthCraft! a day-long workshop, lecture series, and vendor market exploring the relationship between science and art—and how creative collaboration can help build a more just, sustainable future.

Whether you're into mycology, science illustration, urban ecology, or just love a good craft table, EarthCraft offers a welcoming space to learn, connect, and co-create!

Tickets are pay-what-you-can at $5, $10, $15, $20, $30 tiers. The promo code for free tickets is FruityTreeHugger and can be used by anyone who needs it, as we never want ticket cost to be a barrier to attending! 10% of both ticket and vendor sales will go towards urban rivers and the conservation work they do across chicago.

Location and Space Layout

Event will be held at Jane Addams Hull House at UIC

-Lectures will be held in the main hall of jane addams

-market will be held outdoors in between the two main buildings

-decompression craft area will be held on the first floor of the museum area

Accessibility

-all event activities will be held in wheelchair accessible areas

-air filtration in both indoor areas

-A wristband system to opt out of being photographed

Age Requirements

We encourage youth to attend this event, however anyone under 15 years old is required to have a parent or guardian with them. .

This is a mask-required event. Guests who are able to wear a well-fitted respirator (N95, KN95, KF94 or equivalent) should do so at all times when inside the event area.

Free high-quality masks will be available at check-in. Guests will be permitted to temporarily remove their respirators in the outside space to eat, drink, or take a quick mask break.

We ask our community to distance themselves as much as possible and to participate in reciprocal masking when in close proximity to others who are themselves wearing a respirator.

We also ask for all to take a COVID test prior to the event if financially feasible.

Air Purification: Multiple HEPA air purifiers for large spaces will be provided by Clean Air Club.

Who’s Who?

Artistic Alphabet Mafia: The official silliest queer arts org in Chicago with a focus on providing accessible, affordable, sober, and fun creative spaces for local Queer people.

Hull House: founded in 1889, Hull house has served as a center for socially progressive art and community in Chicago for a century and a half. The Jane Addams Hull-House Museum offers exhibitions and programs that aim to inspire action. We serve to educate a diverse range of visitors, including young learners, the UIC community, and civic-minded people in Chicago and beyond

Urban Rivers

Urban Rivers believe that transforming urban waterways into wildlife sanctuaries is not only an important environmental mission, but also a critical social one. Access to nature and greenspace is not equally distributed in our cities, and historically marginalized communities have been disproportionately impacted by environmental degradation and pollution. They seek to target and transform historically degraded areas of the Chicago River into lush gardens and public walkways that benefit the communities around them, improving environmental quality and increasing access to nature.

Specializes in theatre craft and the history of food. THEY HOLD A BA IN THEATRE PERFORMANCE AND HISTORY FROM UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-GREEN BAY WHERE THEY RECEIVED A COMPREHENSIVE THEATRE EDUCATION AND EXPLORED MANY HISTORIC TOPICS. THEY ALSO EARNED AN MA FROM SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE UNIVERSITY IN PUBLIC HISTORY, WHERE THEY STUDIED THE CULTURAL AND SOCIAL IMPACT OF FOOD SCARCITY IN 20TH CENTURY AMERICA.
