Drone-metaloví pionýři Earth, jejichž debutová deska v roce 1993 položila základy zemětřesného hlukového minimalismu, se po sedmi letech vrací do Prahy. Jejich koncert v MeetFactory zahájí projekce dokumentárního snímku Even Hell Has Its Heroes
„Oh, what if we take a Slayer-style riff and play it for 20 minutes at half speed?“ S těmito slovy se zrodilo kultovní album Earth 2: Special Low Frequency Version. Transcendentálních 73 minut zkreslených, plíživých kytarových riffů, noiseová mutace ambientu, formativní nahrávka, která zažehla velký třesk drone-metalového vesmíru. Earth se svým studiovým debutem, který v únoru roku 1993 vyšel u Sub Popu, vydestilovali esenci metalového minimalismu a vydali se do neprobádaných zvukových sfér, kam je v nadcházejících letech následovaly kapely Sunn O))) nebo Boris.
Po dvou dalších doom-droneových albech a následné několikaleté odmlce se projekt na začátku milénia vynořil v sestavě s bubenicí Adrienne Davies a imerzivní nahrávkou Hex: Or Printing in the Infernal Method, která sonickou paletu Earth rozšířila o vlivy gotické americany, repetitivní melodiku psych-rocku i atmosféru temného westernu. Na vlně této desky se Earth vezli nadcházející dekádu, kdy ve své tvorbě putovali hřmotnými, hypnotizujícími zvukovými krajinami. V roce 2014 přišel další přelom s hutným meditativním albem Primitive & Deadly, na nějž navázala kolaborace s legendou industriálního dubu Kevinem Martinem aka The Bug.
Letos seattleská kapela vydala záznam seismického živého vystoupení v Londýně pod názvem WEM Dominator (Live in London NW1, 2016) i remix set debutové desky s titulem Earth 2.23 Special Lower Frequency Mix. A hned na začátku příštího roku vyráží na evropské turné se zastávkou v MeetFactory, kde ji se svým setem podpoří Nataša Grujović & Steve Moore. Večer zahájí projekce dokumentárního snímku o Earth, Even Hell Has Its Heroes. Save the date: 24. ledna 2026.

Drone-metal pioneers Earth, whose debut album laid the foundations for seismic noise minimalism back in 1993, are returning to Prague after seven years. Their upcoming show at MeetFactory will kick off with a screening of their documentary Even Hell Has Its Heroes
“Oh, what if we take a Slayer-style riff and play it for 20 minutes at half speed?” With these words, the cult album Earth 2: Special Low Frequency Version was born. 73 transcendent minutes of distorted, glacial guitar riffs, a noise mutation of ambient music, and first and formost: the formative recording that ignited the Big Bang of the drone-metal universe. With their studio debut, released in February 1993 on Sub Pop, Earth distilled the very essence of metal minimalism and ventured into uncharted territory – a path later followed by bands like Sunn O))) and Boris.
After two more doom-drone albums and a subsequent hiatus of several years, the project resurfaced at the turn of the millennium with drummer Adrienne Davies and the immersive LP Hex: Or Printing in the Infernal Method. This album expanded Earth’s sonic palette with influences of gothic Americana, the repetitive melodicity of psych-rock, and the hazy atmosphere of a dark western. Riding the wave of Hex the following decade, Earth went on to sail thunderous, hypnotic sonic landscapes. In 2014 came another mileston with the dense, meditative album Primitive & Deadly, followed three years later by a collaboration with industrial dub legend Kevin Martin, aka The Bug.
This year, Earth released a recording of their powerful live performance in London titled WEM Dominator (Live in London NW1, 2016), as well as a remix set of their debut album called Earth 2.23: Special Lower Frequency Mix. And at the very dawn of next year, they’re heading out on a European tour with a stop at MeetFactory, supported by Nataša Grujović & Steve Moore. The night will open with a screening of the documentary film about Earth, Even Hell Has Its Heroes. Save the date: January 24, 2026.
