About this Event

EARTH EMBODIED: Moving with our inner and the outer nature

A somatic dance & mindfulness workshop + communal gathering in the summer forest

“We can sense the world around us only because we are entirely a part of this world, because - by virtue of our own carnal density and dynamism - we are wholly embedded in the depths of the earthly sensuous. We can feel the tangible textures, sounds and shapes of the biosphere because we are tangible, resonant, audible shapes in our own right. We are born of these very waters, this very air, this loamy soil, this sunlight. Nourished and sustained by the substance of the breathing earth, we are flesh of its flesh. We are neither pure spirits nor pure minds, but are sensitive and sentient bodies able to be seen, heard, tasted, touched by all the beings around us.” - David Abram, Becoming Animal

When we connect to nature, to its textures and qualities, we also touch upon our inner nature, our inner landscapes. It's a process of unfolding, of peeling away those layers that make us feel separate - from what's around us, from each other and from our innate knowing. It's raw. It might be exposing. It's deep. To sense the rough bark under your skin, to find your body softening, leaning into the curviness of the mossy ground, to really feel the soft rays of the sun and to take in with your whole presence, with your full awareness, the utter awe that everything is.

I'm planning this season's first eco-somatic workshop to be a sort of opening into the summer months: connecting to the energy of the season while grounding ourselves into the present moment. Summer can be exposing, heated, very outwardly. How do we stay balanced? How can we find moments of anchoredness even within this fire-y energy? How can the nature within and around support us?

Let's gather for a day of embodied exploration in the heart of the forest. Through guided eco-somatic practices, improvisational movement and mindfulness and expressive arts methods (free writing/drawing/creating), we’ll attune to the rhythms of our bodies and the living landscape around us.

It’s for you if you long for…

  • a quiet moment away from the buzz of the city
  • space to get in touch with yourself through your senses, through your body
  • an opportunity to attune to your inner rhythm while attuning to the rhythm of nature
  • connecting to other beings (humans and more-than-humans alike :) ) and exploring together
  • being held in a container with care, warmth and depth
