About this Event

theDock Centre for Social Impact is pleased to be able to screen the multi-awarding winning film, The Klabona Keepers on April 22, 2024, as part of Story Money Impact's Earth Day 2024 initiative.

The Klabona Keepers is an intimate portrait of the inspiring Indigenous families that succeeded in protecting the Sacred Headwaters, known as the Klabona, northwest British Columbia, from industrial activities.

Spanning 15 years of matriarch-led resistance, the film follows a small group of determined elders in the village of Iskut as they heal from colonial wounds to push back against law enforcement, the government, and some of the world’s largest multinational companies. Nestled between scenes of stand-offs and blockades, land defenders reflect on how their history of forced displacement, residential schools, and trauma strengthened their resolve to protect the very land that was so essential to their healing journey.

Doors open at 6pm, and the screening begins at 6:15pm. Following the film, there will be time for discussion from 8-8:30pm.

We are pleased to be able to offer this screening at no cost, but if you are interested in supporting the Elders and youth in the film, please consider donating or sending a video testimonial: https://beyondboardingcollective.com/takeaction
