Join us for an Earth Day celebration in word, song and deed.
CUUC member Laura Chilkott and CUUC President Tim Wixted will conduct an "Earth Day Commemoration and Butterfly Garden Service." We will reflect on the deepening meaning of Earth Day and then dedicate our butterfly garden.
We would like to (at the least) meet the requirements to be re-certified as a Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary. We must have a minimum of 20 nectar food plants, three of which are host/larval plants, which includes five milkweed plants, as they are the primary host plants for the monarchs. Nectar food plants include penta, salvia, porterweed, jasmine, plumbago, buddleia, beach sunflower, hydrangea, lantana, bottlebrush, honeysuckle, Mexican sunflower and firebush, pictured below, right. Larval food plants include milkweed, passion vine, cassia, parsley, dill and fennel. The brighter the color in the garden, the more butterflies will visit, according to the garden club.
Join us in-person or online via Zoom. Contact Joe WolfArth at (386) 308-8080 to request the Zoom link.
Pictured are some Butterfly W**d seedlings started from seeds gathered in the fall.
