Join us for the first lecture in PSR’s 2024 Earl Lecture series Disruptive AI, Christian Nationalism, and Democracy. This lecture, AI and Religion at the Dawn of a New Era will be led by John Robichaux, Executive Director for U.C. Berkeley’s Coleman Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership, with a response by a member of PSR’s faculty.
The Age of AI is upon us. What does this mean for social and religious movements? In this session, we go beyond the headlines, separating fact from fiction, hype from hyperbole, to understand what impact AI is having on religion and other foundational institutions in our society and democracy. We ask where are there good reasons to be excited about what AI has to offer and where should we be worried? As AI develops at a breakneck pace, what additional impacts are on the horizon that we should be prepared for?
In considering religion in the age of AI, we tackle AI’s impact on religion and social movements at the individual, communal, and global levels. Moreover, we give special attention to lessons from other keystone technologies as well as questions raised by ethics, equity, and democracy in the modern world.
Reception to follow.
