The Point Arena Lighthouse welcomes back the Moonlight Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos Bajo la Luna) student art exhibit and celebration on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This special community event is the presentation of the Pacific Community Charter School (PCCS) and is free to all. The exhibit will remain on display through Tuesday, Nov. 11.
The exhibit of student art inspired by the popular Día de los Muertos celebration will be displayed in the Buttress Room in the base of the Lighthouse Tower, and the students will be decorating the circular staircase that leads to the top of the Tower with paper marigolds, pressed tin art and other surprises and decorating its landings and the Lantern Room at the top of the Tower with student art. The displayed art is by students of Pacific Community Charter School K-12, Point Arena High School, Point Arena Elementary, Manchester Elementary, Horicon, North Coast Homeschool Collective, and The Forager School.
There will be a Community Altar in the Whale Watch Room Gallery (WWRG) of the Fog Signal Building Museum, and the public is invited to bring their own offerings to add to the altar in memory of their loved ones. Check this page for more information. Previous events have included a Mexican food truck, music, refreshments, event merchandise, and a silent auction to raise funds for school activities.
