In this talk, we'll explore the fascinating world of dystopias, exploring their history and evolution across literature, popular culture and political discourse. What exactly does the term dystopia mean and why do these bleak futures, often defined by oppression, control, and despair, captivate us so deeply? From Orwell's 1984 to The Hunger Games and Black Mirror, dystopian narratives reflect our fears, challenge our beliefs, and offer powerful commentary on contemporary society. Join us as we look through the veil of imagined dystopias and their enduring relevance in today's world.
Joe Trotta, a linguist at Gothenburg University is especially interested in Popular Culture and the use of English in popular media such as film, TV, the internet, music, magazines, tabloids, ads, online games, etc.
The lecture is free, but if you want to visit the museum's exhibitions, you need to pay an entrance fee.
A collaboration between Ett HUM om at Gothenburg University and Världskulturmuseet.
