Deep Dive into African and Afrodiasporic Archives
Did you know that Oslo City Archives preserves several private archives about African and Afro-diasporic history in Norway?
This year marks Oslo's 400th birthday! To celebrate BHMN 2024 and the city's anniversary, we explore Afrodiasporic traces in the city archive. Which archives have been preserved and what do they reveal about Afrodiasporic contributions to Oslo, Norway, and the world?
Catch the lecture "Oslo and Mogadishu in the Middle Ages" by Qamar Ahmed Abikar, historian and tour guide at Middelalderbyen, the Medieval City of Oslo.
Dive into Oslo City Archives' collection with BHMN. We focus on the archives of the Nordic Black Theatre, The Gambian Association, the artist-activist Ruth Reese, and others.
BHMN's study group We <3 archives! share impressions from our work, and colleagues from the city archive talk about the project Traces of us: Oslo's Multicultural Archives (2004-2007).
