Dyan Kane is a multi-faceted performer, songwriter, producer, vocalist, and recording artist whose love affair with jazz began on the bustling sidewalks and underground subways of New York City, where she busked with friends for tips.
While bouncing between college classes, modeling gigs, roles in film, TV, and theatre—and performing club music for the International Bad Boyz label—Dyan also worked as a cocktail server at the legendary Blue Note Jazz Club, where she rubbed elbows with jazz royalty. Her encounters with icons like Oscar Peterson, Ramsey Lewis, Quincy Jones, Ron Carter, Jaco Pastorius, Jon Faddis, Kenny Barron, Nancy Wilson, Betty Carter, Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, Bobby McFerrin, Al Jarreau, Jon Hendricks, Dizzy Gillespie, Stanley Turrentine, Ray Brown, Freddie Hubbard, Cab Calloway, Tito Puente, and Ahmad Jamal deeply shaped her artistry.
From these masters, she absorbed the discipline, presence, and style of jazz—learning how to make every lyric a personal story. 4 a.m. jam sessions with legendary trumpeter Ted Curson helped sharpen her percussive scat technique, unique phrasing, and the earthy, textured vocal style she's known for today.
In 2021, Dyan returned to her hometown of Providence, Rhode Island to care for her mother. She continues to record and perform with top-tier musicians on both coasts. Her albums, Dyatribe and Soul of the Water, recorded in Los Angeles, feature many of these stellar artists.
Also a talented songwriter, Dyan’s original music blends jazz-inspired pop, R&B, funk, and house into a style she calls Urban Pop Jazz.
