Inspired by the profound duality embodied by Lord Shiva, DWANDWA: The rhythm of Samatā explores the delicate balance between stillness and motion, strength and softness within the self.
The work reflects on how opposing forces shape both our inner and outer worlds—where restraint finds meaning through release, and stillness through movement. Drawing from Shiva’s presence as both ascetic and cosmic force, the performance meditates on destruction and renewal, containment and expansion. It was proudly premiered at Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Center this year.
Conceived and choreographed by Kathak dancer Radhika Ramesh Karandikar, DWANDWA is a theme-based repertoire presentation that unfolds in a communicative style, engaging the audience through both abstraction and narrative. The production situates classical vocabulary within a contemporary sensibility, allowing the form to speak with immediacy and depth.
In DWANDWA, Nritta becomes the rhythmic meeting ground of sound and silence, strike and pause, fullness and emptiness, while Nritya moves between meditative restraint and playful fluidity—allowing contrasting energies to not only coexist, but illuminate one another.
