His awards (including the SAMA for Best Kwaito Album) and a platinum-certified album reflect his commercial and critical success—but arguably his larger achievement is the cultural influence he has had, particularly for Durban’s music scene. DJ Tira is at the epitome of sucessful events including FACT DURBAN ROCKS and DURBAN JULY.

DJ Sox is a veteran, resilient, and influential figure in South Africa’s DJ and house music scene—especially in Durban. From organising high-school parties to running major events, from battling personal demons to taking them public in service of others, his story is one of both musical success and personal reinvention.
