Soprano Sinéad White and (former Squamish resident) lutenist Jonathan Stuchbery form Duo Oriana, a Toronto based duo breathing life into song traditions that span centuries and evolve in the present day. Noted for their “impeccable rhythmic ensemble” (La Scena Musicale), White’s “luminous” soprano, and Stuchbery’s “energizing precision” (The Whole Note), they are quickly becoming a well known ensemble across Canada. The innovative duo bring their latest project, ‘The Toronto Book of Ayres’, which commissioned Toronto poets to write texts that were set to music by Stuchbery.Their emphasis on creative, and thematic programming can be heard on their 2023 album ‘How Like a Golden Dream’, which explores the symbolism of the night-time reflected across centuries of poetry and music making.
The show will open with local youth performer, Chloe Rice, accompanied by Julie Murakami. Chloe started singing lessons when she was seven years old and has since expanded to playing piano, flute, and guitar. She has performed at the Provincial Music Festival three years in a row. HSPAA is proud to support local youth.
