Friends and lovers of the dunun/djembe/dance traditions, please join us to gather as a village and experience the healing presence of the land and the music.
IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO MAKE A VILLAGE.
For those of you who are new to this gathering model, our roots are in the Rainbow Gatherings. This is not a commercial camp. There is no fee for admission other than the camping fee of $25/car/night paid directly to the campground. You will have to register with them as you enter the site. Any of our teachers who come will be accepting donations at their classes. There will be no catered food service. You are not paying anyone to take care of you. We pull together and take care of each other and the collective. Our intention is to create a Rainbow-style kitchen on a Magic Hat donation basis, but this will take collective planning and work. Ultimately it is your own responsibility to make sure that you have the food, water, and shelter you need to survive 4 days camping.
The site, Lake Concow Campground, is the traditional land of the Maidu people. It is fully accessible by paved roads. It's a peaceful spot, and has hosted music gatherings in the past. Unfortunately we will have to stop drumming at 10 pm due to neighbors, but will be at full volume during the day! There is water available on site, but I am told that it can occasionally taste like pipes, so bringing enough to drink and cook with might be a good idea. There are unheated showers and pit toilets, (and if we have a gathering large enough to significantly impact the waste level, we will have to pay to get them pumped out.) The site is going to be hot in August, we can expect to plan siesta time in the afternoons, but there are trees for shade and a beautiful lake to jump into! As you may be aware, we are heading into a high-risk fire season, it is unlikely we will be able to have individual fires, and our ability to have a community fire circle will be dependent on conditions. There have been fires the past couple of years that impacted the site, but the good side of that is that most of the fuel build-up has burned off, and our chance of being impacted by a large nearby fire is low.
The event dates are Thursday-Sunday, but we have camping reserved starting Wednesday for setup crew or anybody who wants to come up early, and the campground is open for camping most of the time, with the exception of a few private events, please check their online schedule.
Some of our African teachers have agreed to or expressed an interest in coming, but I won't be announcing any names until we confirm confirmation.
Please stay tuned for updates, and if you have an interest in helping set up and organize please private message this page or me, Peter Cerny. I hope to see you all up there !
