About this Event

The Ann Arbor Housing Commission and Avalon Housing will start taking applications to live in Dunbar Tower in October. This informational session will outline the process for applying and how the preference for local artists will work.

These apartments are funded with Low Income Housing Tax Credits; the residents must be income eligible and meet other LIHTC requirements. The income limit is 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI), which cannot exceed $52,920 for 1 person, and $60,480 2 persons as of September 1, 2025. The income limits are adjusted annually.

Dunbar Tower has 63 units available for leasing, 62 one-bedroom and 1 two-bedroom apartment. 32 apartments have HUD Project Based Vouchers for households who are homeless at the time of move-in. These households will pay approximately 30% of their income for rent and utilities (water, sewer, electric, garbage and community wi-fi) and the rental voucher will pay for the balance of the rent. Housing Access of Washtenaw County (HAWC) will be making all referrals for homeless households. 31 apartments are for low-income households with a preference for artists who live and/or work in Washtenaw County. These 31 apartments will have below market rents ranging from $650 - $900/month. These 31 apartments do not have a project-based voucher attached to the apartment, but a household with a tenant-based rental voucher is welcome to apply. Rents include all utilities (water, sewer, electric, garbage, community wi-fi). Parking: none available.
