DTUK: Building a (engineering) Home in Yorkshire

Lloyds Banking Group's Homes Platform are a primarily a West Yorkshire based team with offices in Leeds and Halifax. They are responsible for delivering the change agenda to drive business growth and customer and colleague experience for the UK's biggest mortgage lender. Hear from the Engineering leadership on a range of topics aligned to engineering excellence.

Speaker Details:

• Richard Welch is the Technical Platform Lead for Homes Platform and is responsible for c.400 software engineers, quality engineers and solution architects across the c.40 teams that make up Homes platform.
  
• Johnathan Hayton is the Engineering Lead for Mortgage Intermediaries and is responsible for the systems used by Mortgage brokers. Has expertise in digital transformation, agile delivery and large transformation programmes.
  
• Billy-Joe Meredith is the Homes Platform Digital Engineering Lead, responsible for public facing direct customer journeys. He is the cloud FinOps and sustainability champion with extensive experience in agile transformation, cloud adoption and DevOps practices.

Three 30 mins sessions will be delivered, focussed on learning lessons from experimentation:

1. The FinOps Challenge - (Billy-Joe Meredith) Hear about how we have leveraged FinOps tooling to make visible and optimise our consumption of public cloud resources to reduce the total cost of ownership.
   
2. Measuring Software Engineering Satisfaction – (Johnathan Hayton) Find out what we learned as we surveyed our engineering teams on what prevents them from being more productive. Some predictable themes but also a few surprises.
   
3. Building a diverse engineering capability in West Yorkshire - (Richard Welch) Fireside chat and Q&A where Richard will discuss some of the challenges faced in recruiting diverse talent in the region and recent success stories.
