2024 marks the 200th birthday of Anton Bruckner. With his epic style, deeply rooted in his Christian faith, he influenced countless composers after him. We celebrate Bruckner with the Symphonic Prelude, a work sometimes attributed to his great admirer Gustav Mahler, and his celebratory Te Deum, a work for chorus, vocal soloists and orchestra, which Bruckner called “the pride of his life.” The program also features soprano Lindsay Ohse Hart performing the Wesendonk Lieder, a stellar set of poetry set to music by Richard Wagner, a composer who Bruckner worshiped. We round out the evening with the seldom performed, yet thrilling, Symphony No.3 by Jean Sibelius.
