„This music challanges. It inspires. While playing it. While listening to it.
It's stubborn, highly precise, skilful, funny, ludicrous and at the same time charming.“ - SZ, 03.12.2018 -
About the artist:
Dsilton, the working-project of Georg Vogel, David Dornig and Valentin Duit was founded in 2015 as a duo of Georg Vogel and David Dornig to perform enharmntuplet arrangements of field-transcriptions. These already consisted of the main musical parameters of the whole repertoire of the ensemble, that evolved since then: the tonal space of 31 equal temperament and related 7-limit just intonation paired with rhythms based on whole number ratio n-tuplets and metric modulations.

About the festival:
Music on the Edge is thrilled to announce the return of the Beyond: Microtonal Music Festival, taking place from February 19–23, 2025, at venues across Pittsburgh. This highly anticipated event is the first festival since 2020 and a continuation of the acclaimed series that began in 2015. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette praised past editions for "making a compelling case for the continued integration of microtonal music into Pittsburgh’s performing arts scene and providing a look at the vibrant community that already exists."
Microtonal music expands the possibilities of sound by using tuning systems beyond, or in addition to, the standard twelve-note equal temperament common in Western classical and popular music. These innovative approaches draw inspiration from world music traditions, early music, and principles of physics and acoustics. The Beyond: Microtonal Music Festival 2025 will celebrate the breadth of this music, spotlighting connections between early music tuning and contemporary works, immersive sound installations, transnational microtonal jazz, as well as a wide variety of other approaches to microtonal composition.
The 2025 festival features five world premieres, performances by renowned ensembles including the JACK Quartet, Ekmeles vocal ensemble, and 31-tone jazz trio from Austria Dsilton; and works by local composers Eric Moe, Amy Williams, Mathew Rosenblum, Paul Gallagher, and Ryan McMasters, and videos by Pittsburgh artists who have created visual responses to the music.
