This really IS a fun and rewarding workshop for all skill levels!
Drypoint is an intaglio printmaking technique in which the lines are scratched directly into the plate (our class will use a plexiglass plate). This process allows for varied tones in the image; the harder you push, the darker the lines. Pressing into the plate also creates a bur, which gives the drypoint a beautiful and unique line quality.
Etching into transparent plexiglass means that drawing skills are NOT required to produce a beautiful intaglio print! Your etchings can be a tracing of a 4" x 6" photograph, a design of your choice, or an original drawing. Regardless of your skill level, you will be amazed at the results!
We will begin the day by making our plates, and then we will use our studio etching press to print our images. We will wipe the ink into the marks we have made on our plate, and the pressure of the printing press will push the wet paper into those lines to transfer the ink. Participants can make as many copies of their prints as time allows.
All materials will be provided; students should bring a 4” x 6” printed photo or image of their choice. (Black and white preferred)
