If you have ever wanted to make your own shamanic drum so that you can play, soothe, heal and connect in communion with it, here is your opportunity.
In this day event, you will be:
- introduced to shamanic drum making and shamanic drumming with as much or as little detail as you need (given your knowledge & previous experience)
- guided in the process of cleansing the raw materials and honouring them before you make your drum
- supported to craft your own drum by a skilled drum-maker and spiritual man (He does not like to take titles such as shaman or healer but I promise you he is both!), my own father!
- connect with the spirit of the animal and the tree you have used in your craft, and make a promise of commitment for the use of your drum if you wish, in a shamanic journey
- spend the day, mindfully creating, experiencing and sharing with a like-minded others
At the end of your day you will have a unique and wonderful drum that you can use for your own intentions and pleasure.
THE BACKGROUND
Several years ago my Dad and I made our own shamanic drums and found a huge amount of joy and spiritual nature within the process. My Dad, Peter, has since crafted numerous drums using a range of woods and skins of various shapes and sizes and methods. He is a quiet and deeply spiritual man who has spent more than 40 years exploring and studying shamanism, healing arts and spirituality. He is now in his later years and is keen to help pass on the knowledge and skill he has to those who would be open to learning. He is willing to offer his calm guidance and skill to help you craft your own drum for a donation to his chosen charity.
For my part, I arrange the day, order and prepare materials (cutting, soaking, sanding), coordinate communications leading up to the event, host, assist and support whole day workshop, offering my own knowledge, experience & energy. With my dad, we also offer you the opportunity to go on a shamanic journey, accompanied by the rhythms of our own handmade drums, to meet with the spirit of the animal from whose skin you will make your drum and connect with the spirit of the tree from which your hoop is made. Your journey will be unique and private whilst being in a shared and sacred space with a very small group of like minded others.
The cost of the session will depend on the wood and size of frame (hoop) and the size and choice of animal of skin you choose and will include a contribution for my time and preparation. I will seek guidance on suggested charitable donation for my Dad's time and skill in supporting you on this magical, creative & spiritual journey. A ball park figure for the whole day and materials may be somewhere between £230 & £300 I would think.
