Drue Heinz Lit Prize Presents: 45th Anniversary with Bill Gaythwaite, Caroline Kim & Kelly Sather

It’s the 45th anniversary of the Drue Heinz Prize! Together we’re honoring 45 years of one of America’s most significant short fiction awards with readings from current prizewinner Bill Gaythwaite as well as alumni prizewinners Caroline Kim (2020) and Kelly Sather (2023). Join in on this celebration of short fiction followed by a public reception of charcuterie and wine.
The Drue Heinz Literature Prize recognizes and supports writers of short fiction and makes their work available to readers around the world. The award is open to authors who have published a book-length collection of fiction or at least three short stories or novellas in commercial magazines or literary journals. Manuscripts are judged anonymously by nationally known writers. Past judges have included Robert Penn Warren Joyce Carol Oates Raymond Carver Margaret Atwood Russell Banks Rick Moody and Joan Didion. Winners receive a cash prize of $15000 publication by the University of Pittsburgh Press and support in the nationwide promotion of their book.
About the Authors:
Bill Gaythwaite is the forty-fifth winner of the Drue Heinz Literature Prize. His debut novel Underburn was published in 2023 and his short fiction has appeared in Subtropics Chicago Quarterly Review Willow Springs South Carolina Review Puerto del Sol and many other publications. Bill is currently the Assistant Director for Special Populations at Columbia Law School. He grew up in Boston and lives in New Jersey with his partner.
Caroline Kim was born in South Korea. She has an MFA in Poetry from the University of Michigan where she won a Hopwood Award and an MA in Fiction from the University of Texas at Austin where she was a James A. Michener Fellow. She was nominated by Jellyfish Review for a 2019 Best of the Net award. Kim lives in Walnut Creek California with her husband and three children.
Kelly Sather is a writer former entertainment lawyer and screenwriter. Her stories and interviews have appeared in Santa Monica Review J Journal Pembroke Magazine PANK on ZYZZYVA and elsewhere. She grew up in Los Angeles and lives in Northern California.
