Spinning thread with a drop spindle is an ancient craft practised across the world for thousands of years. In this workshop, you’ll learn the key techniques for hand-spinning beautifully soft and wonderfully textured yarn using locally sourced wool.

Drop spindle is the perfect starting point for beginners — it uses the same foundational techniques as spinning on a wheel but is far more accessible. With spindles available to purchase at the workshop for just $15, it’s a low-cost, portable, and meditative way to begin your spinning journey.

This gentle, rhythmic craft can be your gateway to working with fleece, offering a deep connection to natural fibres and the satisfaction of making yarn by hand. Your spun yarn can be used in knitting, crochet, or for decorative projects.
