After a whole week of flowers we are going on a pollinator collection hunt, not using a net but using the elementary school staple; cootie-catchers! First follow instructions for a crash course on how to create your very own pollinator catcher. Once you’ve got your catcher, start with a flower to pollinate then go find your pollinators around the museum along with a few fun facts. You never know what other fun information you might find while searching the museum.We’ve got even more pollinators for you if you come by the museum at 1pm when you’ll find The Bee Spot doing an interactive bee demonstration. Come meet a hive, learn how bees contribute to the food we eat every day, understand why bees are disappearing and how we can all help! During the session we’ll look for the queen, see who else lives in the hive, see the food bees need to survive and how they work together and separately for their hive.
Time: 10:00am – 4:00pm (drop-in) with The Bee Spot demonstration at 1:00pm

About The Bee Spot:
The Bee Spot, an apiary in the middle of 25 acres of flowers and native species was created out of passion for nature and wonder for the work bees do in their short lives. We are a family run apiary ( Shane, Jeremy, Gord and Nadine) that focusses on education by offering bee tours that offer a glimpse of what it is like to keep bees by suiting up and doing a full inspection on a hive. Honey from the farm, beeswax candles as well as beekeeping equipment for can be found at our farmgate store right in Tamworth.
