Drinks & Thinks- How to Know a Witch When You See One
Advertisement
Striped socks, pointed hats, black cloaks, maybe a broom. Would you know a witch if you saw one? For centuries, the figure of the witch has been recognized as much by her clothing as by her deeds. This talk traces the history of women accused of witchcraft, and the dress and visual markers used to vilify them. We'll look at how these visual codes took shape, what they reveal about the anxieties of the societies that created them, and how many of those same markers still shape how we picture a "witch" today. Event is FREE-reservation encouranged. https://www.exploretock.com/arrow-cocktail-lounge-manhattan/event/624420/drinks-thinks-how-to-know-a-witch-when-you-see-one
