This class uses the "Dressmaking - The Easy Guide" book by Helen Rhiannon, to guide you through the process of perfecting the fit of a pattern block, and then learning how to make adjustments to the block to make an almost limitless numbers of different dress styles, all crafted to fit you perfectly.
The book includes sleeve, bodice and skirt blocks which, over the first two weeks of the course, we will teach you how to use to create a muslin to fit. Then over the final three weeks these simple block patterns can be adapted to make a variety of different sleeves, necklines and skirts to create almost any style you choose.
The process can be quite involved and confusing to achieve on your own, so coming to the class means everyone can learn together as a group, and you will be guided every step of the way.
The book includes a great, size inclusive range of blocks, from a 34.5" or 87cm hip to a 77.5" or 197cm hip inclusive.
You will need to bring:
atleast 5m of pattern tracing paper along with 2 - 3m of fabric suitable for making a muslin or toile from (an old duvet cover can be great for this), along with your copy of the book. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch or pop out during the 30 minute lunch break.
Provided:
Sewing machines, cutting tools and a basic sewing kit will be included in the cost of the course.
