About this Event
This one-day class will give you the perfect introduction to making costumes. Bring your own fabric and patterns and our experienced tutor will guide to to achieve the best results with tricky specialist fabrics such as fur, lycra, tulle or anything you may be working with. If you are trying to get started with a project, but need a bit of a boost to get going then this class is just what you need to build your confidence.
We will teach you everything you need to know to get started including:
- how to correctly understand a pattern booklet
- accurately measure yourself ( if you are making the costume for someone else, please bring their measurements with you!)
- choose a size
- trace your pattern
- grade/adjust for height where necessary
Then we will teach you some of the basic sewing techniques you will need to use when making your own clothing including:
- sewing accurate seam allowances
- how to finish your seams
- layer, clip and press seams
- insert a zipper/sew a buttonhole
This is our regular one-day dressmaking class, but with a focus on making costumes!
Feel free to join us for one session, or come back for further sessions, it’s entirely up to you. If you would like some help picking a suitable pattern and fabric, then our staff in the Ipswich store will be more than happy to help guide you.
Supplied: large cutting table, rotary cutters, electric scissors and dressmaking
shears, along with our array of modern sewing machines, overlockers, tea and coffee.
Required: your pattern, fabric with matching thread, haberdashey (zips etc) and lunch.
