Dressed in Black: The History of Goth with CATHI UNSWORTH

In an illustrated talk with video clips and images, Cathi Unsworth will explore the history of Goth, both in its 1980s incarnation, as documented in her book Season of the Witch, and the antecedents and descendents of this powerful strain of music, as further explored in Dressed in Black, the album she has recently compiled with Ace Records.
Cathi will explore how this music stands as a record of turbulent times, often told by women who have passed their stories down through generations and how it has been misconceived and why it will always be with us.
Copies of Cathi's book 'Season of the Witch' and the album 'Dressed in Black' will be available to buy at the Festival and there'll be a dedicated signing after Cathi's event.
About Cathi:
Teenage Goth Cathi Unsworth began her career writing about the music she loves for Sounds at the age of 19 in 1987.
She is the author of six pop-cultural noir novels, some of them based within the music industry, some of them based on true but unsolved and disquieting crime cases.
She co-authored Defying Gravity: Jordan's Story with the 'Fifth Sex Pistol' and punk icon Jordan Mooney, published in 2018, followed by Season of the Witch, a history of Gothic music from 1979-91 in 2023. It was a Times, MOJO, Louder Than War and Waterstones Book of the Year.
Dressed in Black, the double viny/CD compilation made with Mick Patrick of Ace Records is out now and has been described as "Darkness, illuminated" by MOJO, "Excellent" by The Wire and "Supremely listenable" by Louder's Robert Plummer.
