Dress Me Beautiful - A History of Style & Resistance
Black History Month: Immersive Fashion Installation featuring Urban Zulu
Step into an unforgettable evening at RJC Dance, Chapeltown Road, where fashion becomes stories, history, and vision. This immersive installation blends garments, live discussion, music, and striking projections of Congo’s landscapes to create a multi-sensory experience.
At its heart is Urban Zulu, the South African fashion house founded by Congolese-born designer Papy Kaluw, whose bold, sustainable designs honour La Sapologie—a movement where elegance defies oppression. His work reframes African fashion as ecological, poetic, and resilient.
Curated by Khadijah Ibrahiim 's Dress Me Beautiful, the showcase explores fashion as a cultural archive: garments as carriers of memory, dress as both narrative and testimony.
The event also features contributions from leading artists and scholars, alongside fashion accessories by Ebony Milstone and more.
A celebration of survival, creativity, and Africa’s sustainable future—woven into every garment.
