About this Event
Inspired by Cecilia Vicuña’s works around dreaming and quilting, Mariquitx invites you to take part in a gathering and collective performance in which we will explore dreams from an individual and collective perspective.
Honoring Kite & Alisha Wormsley's project, , and the idea of translating dreams into patterns, and informed by the Mariquitx's hand-poked tattoo practice, we will contribute to the cosmic quilt of dreams by collectively performing dream-inspired tattoos in the form of symbols on a large translucent surface. Participants are welcome to bring a dream they want to work with, but it is not exclusive, everyone is welcome. Mariquitx will design and provide the dream-inspired symbols, and they will guide participants throughout the whole gathering. We will relate our dreams to the symbols using our intuition, to then embody them into the shared surface that will become a reflection and live manifestation of our collective dream. To finish, we will have a short journaling session in which we will translate our collective dream into words, and find connections with our individual dreams.
Mariquitx is a queer artist from Buenos Aires, based in Brooklyn, NY. Their process-driven practice extends across mediums including tattooing, drawing, sculpture, painting, and socially-engaged art. Grounded in abstraction, their hand-poke tattoo work has unwrapped new forms of expression, through which they explore the interconnection between skin, boundaries, vulnerability, and healing. For Mariqutix, tattoos are a co-creation, and hold the possibility of generating a shared space of care and healing. During the tattoo process, each poke creates a wound. Mariquitx considers how these can become channels through which vulnerability flows through, dissolving the barriers that divide us from all others. An eternal mark, a trace of a transient connection, becomes one with the skin.
