Join us at Fullerton Hall for a lecture by distinguished alum Dread Scott (BFA 1989) followed by an audience Q&A.Location: The Art Institute of Chicago, Fullerton Hall, 111 S. Michigan Ave.
Dread Scott (BFA 1989) is an interdisciplinary artist whose art encourages viewers to reexamine ideals of American society. In 1989, the US Senate outlawed his artwork and President Bush declared it “disgraceful” because of its transgressive use of the American flag. His artwork, the All African People’s Consulate (2024), was an official Collateral Event of the 60th International Venice Biennial. His work has been included in exhibitions at MoMA PS1, the Walker Art Center, Cristin Tierney Gallery, and is in the collection of the Whitney Museum, National Gallery of Art, and Metropolitan Museum of Art. He is a 2023 Rome Prize Fellow, and he has also received fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, Open Society Foundations, and United States Artists.
