Dread Central and Circle Cinema are teaming up to celebrate horror in October with a double feature of one of the genre’s most enduring styles – found footage! One ticket includes admission to both films, starting with the new release “.ask” at 5:30pm with filmmaker Chris VanderKaay zoom Q&A. Then at 8pm, see the Japanese classic “Noroi: The Curse” with Dread Central’s Preston Fassel setting the scene with a frightful reading before the film. Dread Central will be on-site all evening with a special pop-up in the lobby featuring giveaways, goodies, and merch on sale.
Tickets on sale now - $13 members, $15 non-members and includes admission to both features.
5:30pm: “.ask” – 1h29min – Not Rated – English
Chris VanderKaay (director/writer/actor) will join via zoom for a Q&A about the film and Found Footage genre talk moderated by Dread Central’s Preston Fassel after the screening! Synopsis: Chris Vander Kaay, a YouTuber in his mid-40s, takes a mysterious life coach's advice to be brutally honest with his audience. His channel and life improve, but unforeseen darker consequences soon begin to unfold.
8:00pm: “Noroi: The Curse” – 1h55min – Not Rated – Japanese
Author Preston Fassel will introduce the screening and keep the scares coming with a special horror reading. “Noroi: The Curse” was originally released in 2005 and returns to the big screen with a haunting new restoration from the American Genre Film Archive. A mixed media odyssey from prolific filmmaker Kōji Shiraishi, the film examines the strange case of Masafumi Kobayashi—a paranormal researcher who disappeared while making a documentary about "ectoplasmic worms." This is a twisting, turning Analog Horror project that alchemizes urban legends, supernatural hauntings, and true crime shocks into found footage artistry. “Noroi: The Curse” is best watched on the big screen—where there’s no escape.
