About this Event
Thursdays 6:30 - 8:30 pm, November 28 & December 5
ACDC Art School, Fletcher’s Mill, Dean Clough
Join us for a unique, two-part Social Stories™ workshop led by local artist Zeke Clough, designed for parents, carers and friends looking to create personalised Social Stories in a fun and approachable way. Social Stories are a powerful tool for helping children understand and navigate everyday interactions, transitions and BIG feelings - especially for those with autism or other social communication challenges. Zeke will also introduce you to comic strip conversations and show you how these can be used to help navigate tricky issues and situations.
In this workshop, we’re not just focused on the story structure; we want to help you learn how to have fun with it and make the process enjoyable. You'll also get the chance to meet and chat with other parents/carers in a non-judgmental space (cuppas included!).
No artistic experience is needed—just bring your ideas and enthusiasm! This workshop is perfect for parents, carers, support workers and family members who want to make social learning more personalised, effective and fun.
Workshop Details:
- Join us for two 1.5 hour sessions with an artist with lived experience, useful handouts and refreshments included.
- Learn the basics of creating & using Social Stories™ and Comic strip Conversations. With Zeke’s guidance and wealth of personal experience creating social stories for his own family members, you’ll learn simple ways to help engage your child.
- You'll get the chance to share an issue you may be facing right now, build confidence in making a social story to help with it, and add visual elements that work - no matter your skill level.
- Get feedback and support with your social stories including personalised tips to help make future social stories that work for you.
- We also want you to have fun - this isn't just about learning a useful skill, it's about taking time out for you, connecting with other parents and carers, and finding a way to add more enjoyment into everyday support techniques.
Pricing:
The cost for both workshops (3 hrs total) + resources is £40.
However, we also have FREE tickets available if you're struggling to pay the fee - no questions asked.
