Ready to bring the epic tales of the Odyssey to life through comics? Join us for a fun, in-person workshop where you'll learn how to sketch, storyboard, and create your own comic inspired by this classic adventure. No experience needed—just your imagination and creativity! Don't miss out on this chance to dive into storytelling like never before. This workshop is organized by the UVA Department of Classics and led by expert cartoonist and published author, Laura Lee Gulledge.
Laura Lee Gulledge is a Charlottesville-area community artist, author, self-taught cartoonist, and teaching artist specializing in work with neurodivergent youth. She is the author of The Dark Matter of Mona Starr, Page by Paige, Sketchbook Dares, and Will & Whit, which was adapted into a musical. Her collaborators have included the Kennedy Center, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Fralin Museum of Art, and Baltimore Children & Youth Fund. Gulledge was the first graduate of James Madison University’s MA program in Art Education and the first woman nominated for an Eisner Award for Best Lettering.
