About this Event
We are holding a lecture and an evening private view at the King's Galleries to celebrate the exhibition 'Drawing the Renaissance.'<h4>
</h4>
The exhibition will focus on the period of transformation in art between 1450 - 1600, featuring over 160 drawings by 80 artists, all from the Royal Collection. Using drawing as the focal medium, the works show its evolution during the Renaissance from an essential tool in workshops to a medium in its own right. A particular highlight of the show is Raphael's The Three Graces, 1517-18, a study for the frescoed vault in Villa Farnese which was carried out by his assistant. In the study we get to see the women as Raphael really intended - with the same positions as the fresco but with a delicacy only possible with pencil.
Having the exhibition space entirely for Artemisia Members also gives us the unique opportunity to have an uninhibited view of the works, this is especially valuable for drawings as we can get up incredibly close.
We are delighted to have Dr Richard Stemp for our introductory lecture before our private view.
After our private view there will be wine and soft drinks downstairs by the King’s Gallery shop, you will also a receive a 20% discount on any purchases there - perfect for Christmas presents. Added to this your entry ticket can be converted into a one-year pass for free entry to the King’s Gallery.
Please join us for a very special evening.
