About this Event

Welcome to Studio Q workshop series. For vol. 1 we have Gabriel Jehu facilitating a 3 day portraiture workshop.

This workshop is designed for artists from various disciplines who wish to delve deeper into the art of portraiture. We will explore human anatomy in a practical and effective manner, establishing a foundation for observation and interpretation using a live model. We will study the face in terms of its essence, structure, and expressiveness. We aim to capture the human subject in all its complexity—as a living being, encompassing its emotions, mind, and spirit as reflected in the eyes—over the course of these three intensive days.

Day 1 – Thursday, June 25 (5:30pm–9:30pm) : Skull, Bones, and Muscles

  • Section 1: We will discover the bony geometry of the skull, the simplification of light and shadow values, and how to maintain an orderly execution without leaving expressiveness behind.
  • Intermission / Break
  • Section 2: We are going to draw the face by simplifying it into two values: light areas and shadow areas. Achieving this polarization in the drawing will allow us to learn to see in terms of mass and form.

Day 2 – Friday, June 12 (5:30–9:30) : Emotions and their Expressions

  • Section 1: Building upon a basic knowledge of the bone structure of the human face, we are ready to interpret a person. We will work on each feature of the face separately (eyes, mouth, nose, ears) and then we will look at each area as a whole and how they are interconnected.
  • Intermission / Break
  • Section 2: We will draw the model with a focus on capturing their emotional state and paying attention to the details in the eyes. Using different materials and colors, we will be able to interpret their emotional state accompanied by background music.

Day 3 – Saturday, June 13th (Workshop: 1:00 PM – 4PM, Show starts from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM) : Psychology of the Portrait

  • Section 1: We will do a series of portraits using line as the main element. The model will slowly rotate their axis in slow motion, and the drawing will be based on a continuous line tracking the model as they interpret the music.
  • Section 2: A detailed portrait with all tonal values and the highest level of detail possible.
  • Set-up for Workshop show
  • Art show - public welcomed

Dia 1 – Jueves, Junio 11 (5:30–9:30)Titulo – Craneo, huesos y musculos

Dia 3 - Sabado Junio 13th: (Taller - 1pm - 4pm, show empieza a las 7-9pm)

  • Muestra de Arte - Entrada Libre (or Público Bienvenido)
