Drawing Portraits like a Painter
About this Event
Rather than focusing only on accuracy or traditional portrait reproduction, this class will explore how to build a successful likeness through observation, simplification, and expressive mark making. Participants will learn how to reduce visual information, imply form, and make intentional choices about what to draw and how to render it. Often, less is more.
Jake Gillespie learned to draw and paint at the University of Nebraska, and his work has been exhibited in galleries and museums across the United States. He is the founder and facilitator of Heads Up Portrait Club at Terrain Gallery in Spokane and co-founder of Tugboat Gallery in Lincoln, Nebraska. Jake lives in Spokane with his fat orange cat, Clarence.
