About this Event

Come along and be immersed in nature while being guided by Gilbert Dashorst to capture the beautiful surrounds of the park through drawing. Gilbert is a world renowned natural history illustrator specialising in the field of botany and spent 30 years at the State Herbarium/Botanic Gardens of SA as their Scientific Illustrator. One of his best known works is the beautiful and informative book - "Plants of the Adelaide Plains and Hills".

Experience the joy of drawing using pencils and the inspiration of Marino Conservation Park to create an artwork that draws on the aspects of nature from rocks, animals, birds, delicate plants, trees or the beautiful panoramic view of Adelaide in front of you.

Gilbert will supply you with a drawing board, paper and pencils, but you are welcome to bring your own art supplies, but keep in mind if you bring oil paints they will take a long time to dry.


Who is this event for:

The event is suitable for all ages 8+.

The activity will take place in area near Marino Rocks Lighthouse, which is a 5 minute (450 metre) walk from the carpark. A volunteer ranger will meet you in the carpark and lead you to the lighthouse.

What to Bring:

  • Camping chair
  • Enclosed shoes
  • Clothing suitable for weather on day
  • Sun protection as there is limited shade in the park
  • Drinking water and snacks
  • Personal Medic*tion
  • Hand sanitiser
  • Optional: personal art supplies (eg art paper - grain paper if you wish texture/smooth paper for detail flower illustrating, lead pencils F, H, HB, 2B, 6B, charcoal, paints - but keep in mind oils will take a long time to dry, coloured pencils).

IMPORTANT:

  • This event will be rescheduled in the event of wet or severe weather being forecast for the day.
  • There are no toilets within the park. The nearest public toilet is located at the Old Marino Rocks Boat Ramp on Marine Parade, which is a 1.2km drive from the Nimboya Road Entrance.
