About this Event
Drawing Club: Ongoing Drawing For Beginners+
Join us at LMN Wedge Studio & Gallery for a fun and immersive ongoing course (meeting on Saturdays 2-4pm) where you can learn or referesh your experience with the basics of observational drawing! This class is perfect for those who have always wanted to pick up a pencil and start creating but didn't know where to begin. This is also great for advanced beginners who may have taken a class in the past, or need to shake off the dust.
This course has an unconventional structure- it is an ongoing class that meets every Saturday, with a small group of students. The class and curriculum is flexible enough to accomodate new students, as well as support the work of more experienced students. That is how is got the nickname "Drawing Club". We often work on exercises as a group, but there is room for those who want to branch of and work on their own drawing projects, with support and guidance from the class and instructor. It is recommended that new students who want more than just a drop-in experience commit to doing 8 classes, as this is the most likely to be helpful to their practice. Also, returning students have priority, if they would like to re-up, and continue beyond 8-weeks.
Our talented instructor- Laura Noble- will guide you through different observational techniques and mark-making approaches, helping you build confidence and improve your skills. Whether you're a complete novice or just looking to brush up on your drawing abilities, this class is perfect for you. We will learn the basics of drawing light on form, composition, and using graphite or charcoal and stillife and interior scenes.
Supplies: Bring your own drawing pad and basic sketching supplies (for the pad, 9"x12" or larger- 14"x17" or 18"x24" is ideal. Graphite pencils or woodless pencils in 4B-9B are recommended, as well as erasers and a sharpener). For recurring students taking the whole course, we will introduce other drawing mediums and techiniques, such as colored pencil, ballpoint pen, and conte pencil. Good erasers and a pencil sharpener are also useful.
The instructor will introduce and deepen our understanding of visual art terms, such as composition, light and shadow, and value scale. She will increase students' facility with various drawing mediums (including pencil, charcoal or conté, and colored pencil) to create compelling images of observed subjects, including stillife, self portrait, clothed figures, architecture, and room interiors. This class will introduce students, and prepare them for drawing from live models (our Intro to Figure Drawing Course will builds on this. In addition, intermediate students will move students further into the subtleties and techniques of drawing, including linear perspective, anatomy, and developing longer drawings from reference and sketches).
Come and unleash your creativity in a supportive and encouraging environment. Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity to kickstart your artistic journey!
To register for this course, go ahead and choose your start date, and register for either a drop-in, or for 8 weeks. If you'd prefer, you can pay for only one class here through Eventbrite, and then pay in person at the studio. Your 8 weeks of class do not need to be used consecutively (though attending weekly, or at least monthly, is recommended for best progress) you only need to use your classes within 8 months.
Note: If you aren't able to register for the Saturday afternoon course, feel free to reach out about creating your own small group or private art lesson series (email [email protected])
