HOUSE OF USHER arguably the finest Roger Corman/Vincent Price pairing. Poe’s oft-filmed short story about the cursed New England Usher family, as adapted by Richard Matheson, has never looked better. In this faithful retelling, Roderick Usher keeps his sister Madeline prisoner, determined that they be the last of their bloodline. So he does not take well to the arrival of Madeline’s suitor, whose efforts to receive her hand in marriage are ill-fated to say the least. Price, as always, runs the show.
