Dr@wn: One artist, one million drawings - LIVE LAUNCH

Byker-based artist Russel Coleman is gearing up for an extraordinary endeavour as he embarks on the creation of a staggering one million unique drawings each set to be sold for a fraction of the cost of a cup of coffee.

Titled 'Dr@wn – one artist one million drawings' this ambitious five-year project involving 200000 drawings annually is set to revolutionise the art world. Russell Coleman a working-class man is challenging the traditional narrative that art is reserved for the rich by introducing a new approach to ownership.

Typically owning art is limited to those with deep pockets or made available as more affordable 'copies’ Russell is determined to change the game. 'Dr@wn' invites a million individuals to become (owners of a small piece of a greater work) fostering a unique community with an entry price that is less than the cost of a cup of coffee. By becoming an owner individuals not only acquire a piece of art but also become an integral part of the project’s narrative.

Russell says “Classically a million pound artwork would be the result of an artist having a manger and a gallery representation schmoozing the art world and working your way through an opaque maze of deals exhibitions exposure until enough people say that your work is validated and money worthy. Collecting art tends to be reserved only for those with money. I want to take a new approach to making a million £ artwork and a new approach to art ownership.”

The launch of 'Dr@wn' is set to take place on 11th February at the Star and Shadow venue in Newcastle. Russell Coleman will kick off the project by live-drawing the first 500 pieces accompanied by music creating an immersive experience for attendees.
