Troy Puckett will speak about osteopathic medicine August 17 at 7pm. His talk will focus on the origins, concepts, and current practice of osteopathic medicine. He will also offer an open forum for discussion on current health topics.Most doctors in America receive an allopathic degree, signified by the familiar letters MD. Around ten percent of American doctors receive an osteopathic degree (DO) and the number is rising.
Coursework and training for both allopathic and osteopathic doctors is very similar, the difference is primarily in the philosophy of osteopathy. Osteopathy focuses on a holistic approach to medicine. It seeks to treat the patient as a whole – not just a specific symptom, system, or injury.
