Dr Stephen Fulder on Buddha Mind and Ordinary Mind in Conversation
About this Event
It is easy to regard our spiritual life as a long uphill climb that we hope will take us from a disturbing ordinary mind and a life of struggle, especially during these challenging times, to a distant peak of Awakening. And we assume we are somewhere in the middle. However, the practice of seeing clearly, the wise heart of dharma, invites us to see our mind, our inner face, from a new perspective. Does the ordinary mind need to be disturbing? Does it need to be ordinary? Is the Buddha mind really somewhere else? Aren't the Buddha and ourselves made of the same stuff? Can we welcome and celebrate the discourse between ‘our’ Buddha Mind and Ordinary Mind in our practice and in our daily life?
Stephen Fulder was born in London in 1946, educated at Oxford University and has a Ph.D. He has been engaged in Buddhist spiritual practice for 50 years and is the founder and senior teacher of the leading Buddhist practice organisation in Israel (Tovana–The Israel Insight Society). He emphasizes how to bring the extensive dharma tools and insights into the most challenging of circumstances and has had years of experience working with Palestinians and Israelis in peace-making. His many published books include The Five Powers and How to Thrive in Hard Times: A Buddhist Manual.
