About this Event
Money. Credit. Wealth. Debt. On the surface, these words are about numbers... but for many of us, they bring up big emotions, too.
Join author, educator, real estate broker, and strategist Dr. Lisa Hoover, and Tonika Garibaldi, Program Manager with Black Women Build, for a conversation about the deeper truths behind our financial identities.
Centered around Dr. Hoover's new book It Was Never Just About the Numbers, we'll engage with the systems, habits, and silence that have shaped our relationships with money, and consider how reclaiming our financial power begins with knowledge, mindset, and strategy. And we'll hear about how Black Women Build - Baltimore transforms these very conversations into home ownership and wealth-building locally.
Black Women Build – Baltimore (BWBB) is a community and wealth-building initiative that restores vacant and deteriorated houses for homeownership. Since its start Black Women Build – Baltimore has been transforming neighborhoods by offering women a pathway to homeownership, teaching trade skills, providing education, and building strong communities.
This June, BWBB is offering a Homeowner Essentials series, offering knowledge + tools for homebuyers & homeowners in West Baltimore.
Come on over to find community around these topics!

Dr. Lisa Hoover is an author, educator, real estate broker, and strategist whose work explores the intersection of financial literacy, systemic inequity, and lived experience. Her book, It Was Never Just About the Numbers, challenges the emotional and structural weight placed on financial metrics and examines how inherited beliefs around money, readiness, and ownership shape the way people move through the world.
Drawing from backgrounds in law, education, real estate, and financial coaching, Dr. Hoover speaks and teaches on the deeper systems behind credit, homeownership, and economic mobility — helping people move beyond limitation, uncertainty, and inherited financial narratives toward clarity, preparation, and agency.
