Dr. Isabel Pérez-Ramos, scholar-in-residence, will lead guests in a creative composition workshop to dismantle the Wastocene.
After a brief introduction to the Wasteocene as a concept, students, faculty, and staff are invited to reflect on the problem by drafting a story as a response. The story can be conceived as a text, an oral story, a comic, a zine, a painting, a mural, a collage, a song…
Participants will be invited to work collaboratively and to conceive hopeful stories where solidarity becomes key in overcoming wasting practices. The workshop aims to help participants imagine alternative, hopeful futures, promoting collaboration and proactive attitudes towards socioenvironmental problems while fostering their creativity.
Speculative Play and Just Futurities is made possible through the generous support of the Mellon Foundation. SPJF is a collaboration between the IU Indianapolis Arts and Humanities Institute, the Center for Africana Studies and Culture, and the Ray Bradbury Center, with housing support from Big Car Collective.
