The UT Arlington School of Social Work and the Native American Student Association invite you to a powerful evening with Dr. Cornel Pewewardy, scholar, activist, Oklahoma Educators Hall of Fame inductee, and former Vice-Chairman of the Comanche Nation.Dr. Pewewardy will talk about what land, power, and territory really mean to Indigenous peoples. For generations, Indigenous people have held deep knowledge about their relationship to the land and to each other. That knowledge has been challenged, ignored, and attacked, but it has never been erased.
This presentation pushes back against the idea that Western science has the only valid answers. Dr. Pewewardy centers Indigenous ways of knowing, such as story, spirit, dream, memory, and tradition, as legitimate sources of truth.
He has spent over 50 years on the front lines of the fight against cultural erasure in Southwest Oklahoma, and he brings that lived experience into every room he enters.
