Performance Management: How to Measure Success?
Dr. Claude Davis, Digital Innovation & Consumer Engagement - Marketing Manager, McCormick & Co
Abstract: The development of Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant Timebound (SMART) goals is critical to both your individual development and success within a performance management system. The employee’s SMART goals will impact the company’s overall performance goals for the year, which are typically measured by Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as total revenue. An employee’s final performance rating is based on their contributions to the company over a 12 month period. We will discuss the process to determine an employee’s year-end final rating from 360 degree feedback surveys, self-assessments, goals vs measures, the manager’s assessment and the talent calibration process. In addition, we will discuss performance appraisal, which connects an employee’s annual performance rating to both their bonus payout and merit increase for the year. Furthermore, we will discuss how an employee’s performance rating will be evaluated by the department leadership team to determine the employee’s overall potential rating for future growth and development opportunities within the organization.
