Please join us for a talk entitled "Geographies of Salvation: Sacred Landscapes, Conversion, and Early Modern Religion, 1400-1800" presented by Dr. Charles Parker. The discussion will be held on October 29, 2024 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM in the Dudley Bailey Library (2nd floor, Andrews Hall, City Campus).
Dr. Parker is a professor of history at Saint Louis University. His research suggests that conflicts over spaces and landscapes in the age of early modern religious encounters wrought important changes within Islam and Christianity. These Abrahamic traditions collided with Indigenous mythologies that were rooted in the landscape. Consequently, Islam and Christianity labored to transform sacred sites and their narratives as part of campaigns of conversion.
