We've lost our dear friend, so let's gather as a community and share our Brendan stories and raise a pint in his name.
Also, I think Brendan would get a kick that his memorial taking place in an Irish pub with a pagan statue of Brighid at the bar in the basement of a deconsecrated church.
----------------
Dr. Brendan Myers was a vivid, intricate, tender-hearted soul who held astonishing depth in both thought and love. His days were shaped by a passionate devotion to philosophy, wonder, and spiritual inquiry, all of which he shared eagerly with anyone willing to wander into his path.
Brendan always spoke with his heart first. Even his soft-spoken voice burned with a fiery conviction that proved to be quite contagious to his students, his peers, and his friends.
Brendan wrote more than twenty-five books exploring virtue, spirituality, the evolution of ideas, loneliness, and science fiction. While he took great pride in this body of work, his true goal was to make the world a better place one book at a time. He was never one to rest on his laurels: as soon as one book was done, he was already working on his next one. Brendan always had so much to say, so much to offer to a world that was in dire need of more philosophers and storytellers.
His professional life allowed him to share his insight with others as a Professor of Philosophy at CÉGEP Heritage College in Gatineau (Quebec, Canada). It was a role that he embraced with style, seriousness, gratitude, and genuine delight.
Brendan was also a gifted guitarist and singer, writing many original songs and joyfully covering favourites from The Waterboys, Stan Rogers, The Beatles, and countless old Irish ballads. He loved playing late into the night with friends, laughing over a pint or a whiskey.
Brendan was a huge nerd, a loyal friend, a passionate professor, a gifted artist, and a good man. As smart as he was, he could never truly fathom the positive influence he had on his many students, his readers, and the communities that benefited from his wisdom and insight. Rest in Power Dr. Brendan Myers, until we meet again.
